Clara I know your concerned, here's what we need understand about E. Estrogen is an awesome growth enhancer, it locks on to receptor site and says grow!. If cancer is present it's being flooded with estrogen making it grow.

Estradiol and estrone has the biggest effect on femininity. As you know phytoestrogens have been reported to have health benefits by locking onto estrogen receptors in breast tissue and thus preventing the stronger and more dangerous estrogen compounds from entering. Full article below:

Lower levels of estrogen, such as during menopause, can alter physiological processes and can alter bone density and cause urinary problems. http://www.livestrong.com/article/254022...-estrogen/

Frankly I think we have more to worry about from xeno-estrogens, (pesticides and herbicides) which are so close in their molecular structure to estrogen that they are able to lock on to estrogen receptors in breast tissue.

Quote:“Combined xenoestrogens can have an effect that is 100-1,000 times more potent than the strongest estrogen made in the body.” - Eldred Taylor

When estrogen reaches the breast, it looks for a place to "park". Parking spaces represent the "estrogen receptors", which estrogen binds to on the breast cell membranes.

The rate at which cells divide in response to estrogen is affected by many factors. First, the rate depends on the strength of the estrogen. There are strong estrogens (ESTRADIOL, ESTRONE, XENOHORMONES) and weak estrogens (ESTRIOL, PHYTOESTROGENS). Strong estrogens speed up cell division and therefore, increase the risk of cancer. Weak estrogens slow down cell division, therefore reducing the risk for cancer.

Estrogen is broken down in the liver, and is influenced by the presence of certain chemicals. It is either broken down into a "good" kind of estrogen (Technically known as 2-hydroxyestrone) or a "bad" kind of estrogen (16-alpha hydroxyestrone)

Thanks for that useful information, Lotus. Now, I have a question...

As a man gets older, his androgen levels drop, and his estrogen levels rise, right? Does that mean that the total quantity of sex hormones (androgens + estrogens) stays the same?

I suspect not, for this reason. Low testosterone in males can cause bone loss, just like low estradiol in females causes bone loss. If the loss of testosterone was made up by an equal amount of estradiol, no bone loss should occur. Therefore, bone loss occurs when the amount of sex hormone, in general, declines in later years.

What's right or wrong in my reasoning?

Dear Clara,

Short on time, didn't want to leave ya hanging, I found this site a few days ago. Please read the post by BBC3, I'll check back with ya in a bit! It relates.....

Total testosterone simply is all testosterone bound and unbound to serum proteins. The serum proteins mainly responsible for transport are SHBG and albumin. So do you mean Total Testosterone TT or Bound Testosterone BT or Free Testosterone FT?

I'll take it as you meant Total, essentially it's like comparing apples to oranges,

This implies that as long as we are seeing an increase in estradiol accompanied by an equal or larger increase in testosterone, we are reaping positive effects, on both fat loss and muscle retention since testerone increases IGF-1, while estradiol prolongs the half-life and effect of the hormone by increasing IGFBP-3 and IGF1-receptor density (20). Without the testosterone increase, it may however increase muscle loss (and potentially increase fat loss further by enhancing apoptosis of fat cells ?).

I know, but it correlates!......it's like putting the cart before the horse!

Check out this calculator for FT and BT. You will need TT, SHBG, and Albumin
http://www.issam.ch/freetesto.htm

These calculated parameters more accurately reflect the level of bioactive testosterone than does the sole measurement of total serum testosterone. Testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) circulate in plasma unbound (free approximately 2 - 3%) ,bound to specific plasma proteins (sex hormone-binding globulin SHBG) and weakly bound to nonspecific proteins such as albumin. The SHBG-bound fraction is biologically inactive because of the high binding affinity of SHBG for testosterone. Free testosterone measures the free fraction, bioavailable testosterone includes free plus weakly bound to albumin.

Does this help? Smile
Thank you this is a lot to take in. So much good information you give us to understand are bodies and are minds. Its going to take a while to understand all this . The female sex drive is intrusting . Its like the opposite from male sex drive but shares the example of yin and yang. I still have trouble understanding thr female sex drive . But as my male sex drive member from the pm starts to go away that is when my craves for learning more about the female sex of the sex drive . And understanding the switch mirror effect of desire and change that will come from taking pm.

Thanks
