Fwiw, there is a lot of tolerance for gender variance in IT because a lot of geeks are into anime and fantasy role playing games and such where characters often switch back and forth between genders. IT is also one of the few professions where there doesn't seem to be much of a glass ceiling or even pay disparity between genders. Furthermore, there is a tendency to be valued for your skills more than anything which is good given how socially maladjusted many IT folks are. I've also read of several MtF transsexuals in IT who transitioned on the job with no problem.

What the heck! Now I feel like I don't belong here anymore
Ironically, today I found out that I'm no longer responsible for our IT systems. No joke!
Previously I was a crop production specialist and later a financial advisor for a well known brokerage firm. Now I'm the manager of property maintenance for an adult foster care provider.
