What's your expectations of being trans?

What I find (or found) distressing is not finding related information that helps in everyday life (e.g. HRT, meds, isolation, exercise, social issues, diet, HRT programs, etc etc) that's geared for +50 trans. YouTube is filled with youthful transformations, it's rare if you see older mtf transformations, just my opinion.

concerns, comments and related experiences would be much appreciated. Update, feel free to relate any age. 

Yep I find the same even though I am only 37, I have been fortunate to be able to find my own style mainly through trial and error, especially with make up just need a lot more practice although my recent pics might suggest I am reasonably competent!

That said being a bit older, more world wise and more mature, I feel a lot more mentally able to cope with things now. I am not sure at 21 even despite having wanted to be more feminine then I would be as calm about things as I am now.

It could well be the internet is mainly focused on the young or thats the impression I get and there seems very little for the more mature person let alone those who are transgender in the widest possible sense!

Thats why here has been great has it has mainly been the self educated and more mature community which seems very supportive and friendly compared to some other forums I have read through, its what inspired me to contribute rather than lurking!

That's awesome, thanks Megan. Contributing over lurking is so much more engaging huh?, welcome aboard. There's no stigmata about HrT here. But yeah, I'm looking/seeking real people experience (not Instagram TG models, however beautiful they are).

44 here. My opinion is propper treatment begins at pre pubecence. When puberty is blocked. For the rest of us we have secondary or invasive treatment. So if you became fully tg ts as a teen that is now standard treatment. Above puberty we are seniors or just victims of the bad medical treatment of the past.

Glad to be able to maybe help you out for a change!
I'm 67. that is a new 67.
Here is my perspective and what I have observed over the 5 years I have been sharing this experience with my wife and being more openly femme.
1. As you pass 50 and 60 you dont give hoot about what other people think! Your past having to make an impression and your life style is not a flaunt my sexy booty in the bar type. Your femminization is a serious thing and something you put a lot of time, thought and hard work into.
2. Most of the 50+ crowd that discovers that they should have been female ages ago, do it and leave the TS scene. aka Clara Kay. They were trans sexual but now its over, they want and need to just be a woman. So its hard to get a perspective from the other side.
3. The biggest issue with being 50+ is that we all want those perky 20+ boobs and slender waist and lovely physique.. but we have other issues.. wrinkles, belly, muffin top cellulite, MPB. So even when we are all done with our DIY remodeling there is still a lot that needs to be tweaked. That distracts us from where we were heading. So forget about it. Your 40, 50, 60 what ever, there is a wonderful maturity that we need to accept and slide into. Wrinkles and all. You are still allowed to wear a mini skirt. I said so, so there!
4. However, I have found that as I drift to femme I am much more conscious about my figure, my appearance, and what goes into my body. SO I believe that all of this is a great thing to extend our lives and we should do what is required to prolong the wonderful days ahead. Diet, exercise and mastering the art of makeup.
I dont know if I answered your concerns, but I think the bottom line as we get older id F**k it THIS IS WHO I AM. I LOVE BEING ME.

A few of the older trans females in my support group are presenting really well. One lady in her early 50s has already had her SRS, after only a few years on HRT. The pictures between her dead name and present look like two completely different people.

There is hope for us, but I also suspect if your not the most ( shall I say ) handsome male, or have very male looking features, this might not convert well to female features.

What you can expect, as your muscles start to fade, your shoulders will go a tad narrower, and your height may drop by a few inches. Some of the girls have also lost at least one or two shoe sizes.

I hate looking for clothes, if you go on like looking for ideas, even the older models are skinny. ( although, even GG's have this problem )

Very intresting times we are in right now. This site has to be one of the best sites I have ever joined for support. If any lurkers are reading this, please join in. You won't regret it.

@ Billy- it took 2 years to finally find proper care (talk about being miserable during that time lol). We can't do this alone, that lonely road leads to despair, isolation and certain harm, thank you for the input.

@ Bobbie- bows down to 67, happy bday. thanks for the sage advice. For sure feminization is the main issue at present, I know it's working but dang!!! the wait is painfully slow. I love the " I don't give a flying f**k " outlook. you gave me heaps to think about. (cudos)

@ jannet- I'm not holding my breath on a reduction in shoe size. though still hopeful. I agree, the support group here is truly amazing and filled with amazing souls truth be told, hats off to everyone helping others.

Thread really should be 40, maybe even mid 30's plus.

From what I have seen online there is just greater acceptance for the younger generations. Catching it early on seems to make a vast difference. Seems the later you start, the more there is to work on. Receding hair, sizing, face, hands, body hair, facial hair etc etc. So much to do, so little time. I myself never thought myself has either handsome or pretty. I figured I would never be able to present as female and for me that was a big part of it. Since I figured I could not present properly as female then what was the point of going further than what I was already working on. Unfortunately or fortunately depend which way you look at it, I am much more open to the possibility of transitioning. Amazing how much ones confidence is boosted after receiving much positive feedback from so many.

As I delve deeper into my journey I see things much clearer and it makes me happy. Granted there are several obstacles to overcome but in time I'm sure I will get through them. I say this often in real life and perhaps I fail to heed my own advice at times. Though I suppose sometimes easier said than done. Why worry what other people think? There will always be people unhappy with themselves and will try and bring you down with them. But as Bobbi said F ehm, as long as what you're doing makes you happy and fulfilled and isn't causing someone else physical harm then do it.

I look forward to additional feedback here as I'm sure it will be beneficial to everyone, no matter what age range.

Although one link dated 2003 talked about a local meeting of +50 trans elders........ 3 people showed up. +50 group narrows the feedback, thanks for the heads up, please note the update to trans elders (that being trans). Agreed, the cross section of feedback will help all those who need it.

I relate to this same sentiment (still) after 2 years of HrT. I'm not sure when I'll feel ready to go en femme anywhere anytime soon, I'm ok with presenting gender neutral (lol, my comfort level). Btw, has spiro helped anybody with their hairline?, if so what's the current dosage?.

Sorry, I was really tired last night and was a bit scattered, I understand the original intent of your post, it was to cater to a specific age group, and develop further insight into the matter. In particular things that are not always covered in todays topics in dealing with the younger transgendered. I hope the change to this thread does not stray too far off the original goal.

Thank you Lotus, that means a lot to me. It was a bit of a tough decision on whether to post or not, and I am glad I did. No regrets, not yet anyway. Not till I get a PM on here stating they know who I am, probably have a heart attack! Ha ha ha.

I still have some reservations about being able to present as female, I suppose I just haven't quite reached my comfort zone. I still see a lot of nit picky things that I wish were different, or wish I could change, but we are our own worst critics and I am sure I will always find some fault or flaw, perhaps it's what helps keep my ego in check. Guess it's just taking things one step at a time.
