There's a possibility that a successful head transplant can be made with modern tech. The only think that keeps it from happening is the moral/financial barrier that hinders many other medical advances. I read a paper a while back about reconnecting spinal nerves using polyethylene glycol, a common OTC laxative.
It's said that a brain transplant without the rest of the head wouldn't be possible for a long while. It may be weird to have a mismatched head on a body, but I guess patients willing to swap bodies could take cosmetic surgery.
As for the body I'd take, I think I'd want it custom-made.
