I once had a dental condition that required a minor surgery - Apicoectomy - they had to go through the gum to fix a root canal that went wrong. I was so scared that I waited until the unpleasantness of the condition overcame the fear.

Sounds exactly the same as me, I have to be in real BAD shape before I'll even think of heading to the doctor.

I'm trying to break myself of it though as the last time I waited and waited until I was REAL bad before finally going to a Doctor, I came frighteningly close to ending up up in a pine box because of it....
(and it took a lot longer to get well again)

That's a bad alternative, definitely!
