I tried SP early on but It seemed to make my beard and body hair start growing like crazy so I stopped that and went with the spearmint...

Yea I know it takes YEARS but I gotta say I am shocked at the results thus far and I guess Im sad they arent as sore as they were and I want that back

It is a little weird, perhaps, but I know exactly what you mean. I also really like the soreness/tenderness. If it goes away, I will miss it, just as I will miss the buds when they soften and disappear.
