Is Finasteride a safe long-term solution?

#1

Hey everyone,
I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, gathering info and trying to figure out my own path. I'm really interested in exploring feminization, but I'm also incredibly cautious about the potential side effects of medications like Finasteride.
I keep seeing conflicting information online. Some sources say it's generally safe for long-term use, while others highlight potential risks like erectile dysfunction, depression, and even cognitive changes. I know everyone's experience is different, but I'm hoping to get some real-world perspectives from people here who have been using Finasteride for an extended period.
Specifically, I'm curious about:
* What dosage have you found effective?
* Have you experienced any noticeable side effects, and if so, how have you managed them?
* Do you have any blood tests done regularly to monitor your health while on Finasteride?
* Overall, do you feel the benefits outweigh the potential risks?
Any insights or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated! I'm really trying to make an informed decision before committing to this. Thanks in advance!.

Hi and welcome.

Well firstly you either want to go down this route or not, have you asked yourself is this what you really want, because it is for real and not a game or some experiment it takes commitment.

If you do decide to go down the rabbit it is a wonderful journey but not without some pitfalls but here on BN there are good people who will help.

Here in the UK Finasteride, is a prescribed drug that is designed for 2 things, ONE - it helps with male pattern baldness (1mg per day) and secondly - it helps with BPH which is Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (5mg Day)

I have BHP and take 1 x 5mg a day and so far have had no side effects, if you google Finasteride and BHP it will tell you a lot more than I can type on here, as with every drug there are side effects, what you must decide is is it something you can cope with.

You must have blood tests to monitor your health, you will not feminize on Finasteride alone, it will lower your Testosterone but will not really raise your estrogen levels which is a must for your needs

Google MTF blood levels and that will give you a better insight and a guide to your aims.

What ever you decide good luck, do not be afraid to ask, some will answer some will not, its a massive international community.

Best regards
Ian
