As Fire n Ice says, listen to your body, but also start slow. Going for a medical checkup once every 6 months is also a good idea. You need to make sure you kidnys and liver are working as they should and you are not harming yourself.

Struggling with some of the abbreviations like "PM" used regularly on the forum. Is the a place I can go to find out what they all mean?

Acronyms, aren't they just lovely?
Most of the time it is the initials of the product or herb. You can find a lot of them on this post from Lotus.
