Self-respect is the best means of getting the respect of others. Napoleon Hill
Have you known people who can’t stand to be alone for any length of time? The chances are good that those folks don’t like themselves very much. They need others around constantly to validate their own existence. Sadly, the people who need others the most are usually those whom others least like to be around. Because they don’t like themselves, other people seldom do either. The surest way to command the respect of others is to become a person you like being around. Identify the characteristics you admire in others and make a conscious effort to develop them yourself. Your self-respect begins to grow the moment you decide to take the first step toward becoming the kind of person you know you can be: a success. NHF

Condition Yourself for Success
by Napoleon Hill
Throughout that portion of our universe which we have been able to explore, we find a perfect system of balancing between all the stars and planets, and the nebulous matter which has not yet taken on the form of planets or stars. If this Law of Balance did not exist there would be constant chaos through the collisions of the stars and planets, and the seasons of the year, and day and night, would not be regulated or their habits predictable.
Most of us may not feel a deep interest in the balancing of the stars and planets, but all of us do have a keen interest in the methods by which we may take full advantage of the great Law of Universal Balance in adjusting to the circumstances affecting our individual lives so that they benefit us. The best way to secure benefits from this great law is, first, by taking possession of our power of thought and using it to relate ourselves to the circumstances we can control, in a manner favorable to ourselves; and second, to use this same power of thought to adjust ourselves beneficially to all the circumstances affecting our lives which we cannot control.
From this brief analysis of the Law of Balance we are heartened and encouraged by the observation that this law keeps everything throughout the universe in line with nature's established pattern and plan, except man--the only living creature with the power to deviate from the influence of this, and all other natural laws, if and when he chooses, and is willing to pay the price for his deviation.
If you are searching for the supreme secret of success in all human endeavors, here is a very suitable point at which to stop, ponder, meditate and think, with the hope that the small still voice which speaks from within may bless you with the knowledge you seek.

No one can keep you down but yourself. Napoleon Hill
Have you ever felt that sometimes you are your own worst enemy? We all have moments when, no matter how hard we try, things just don’t seem to work out right, when everything goes wrong, and we have no one to blame but ourselves. But, just as you may sometimes be your own worst enemy, you can also be your own best friend. The transition usually occurs when you realize that the only person on earth who can determine your failure or success is you yourself. You may discover your best friend when you develop the maturity and strength of character to accept yourself for the person you are and to take the actions necessary to become the person you wish to be. When you analyze yourself objectively, you can begin to build upon your strengths and compensate for your weaknesses. When you do, you will realize that the only person who stands in the way of your success is you.

By annihilating the desires, you annihilate the mind. Every man without passions has within him no principle of action, nor motive to act.

I like that, how about this one too?,
If you've always got what you always did, you'll never get what you always want.
An ingenious version of it. I like it. Thanks, POM
