When I went on birth control my areola changed from pink to a dull pink almost brown color. I would think the same could happen to *other* areas due to hormonal changes (higher progesterone).
I'm slightly embarrassed to admit this, but I've used a hydroquinone cream on that area and had no irritation. If you have sensitive skin, I would recommend doing a spot test just in case. It does work to lighten the skin, however you have to apply it every day, and the results don't last. You'll be applying it every day forever.
There are also genital dyes available if you want pink/red. Not so sure how it would work on dark skin. Haven't used them.
