I spoke with the triage nurse who works for my dermatologist this morning. The suspicious growth the doctor removed is a "actinic keratosis", which is a precancerous lentigo, and included what is known as an "irregular" or "ugly duckling" mole. the doctor wants me to return to the clinic for further excision of the lentigo/mole to make sure they remove it entirely.
The good news is there is no sign of melanoma within this lesion! I'm not 100% out of the woods yet since the other indicators suggest something could be going on, and there is the possibility that the melanoma was there but is 100% regressed, but the probability that I have metastatic melanoma decreases significantly with these results. I will consult the doctor about what signs to be on the lookout for and will continue to be vigilant in the future.
I can relax some, at least for the time being. Thanks again everyone, for the support, well-wishes, and prayers.
