As much as I loathe Fox News, it's a bit naive to think the other side of the spectrum is any different. Not that my opinions on the matter are any more valid than those held by others.

I totally agree! What we have now is rule by a political class, more of an oligarchy than democracy. When I was a kid, politicians had experience of life, probably active military service in WWII, or otherwise some other real job. What we have now are a bunch of people who go to college to study to become politicians, leave college, work as interns, and know no other life. The difference between the political parties (at least in the UK) is purely cosmetic, and I suspect the same can be said for all Western democracies. None of them are truly representative, and in fact they sneer at the concept of "populism". My vote usually goes to the "none of the above" party.
