Once you achieved a certain amount of breast growth, going swimming and otherwise going shirtless in public will no longer be practical. Before you get to that point though, do you feel having to deal with tender and swollen areolas and nipples would erode your sense of being a guy? After all, it's usually pubescent girls who have to deal with such bodily changes, not males in their twenties. If you frequently work out in a gym, you'll probably have to be discreet when changing in the locker room so nobody sees your budding breasts. Depending on how much you love being a guy, having breasts could end up causing too much embarrassment for you than it's worth.
As I mentioned earlier, perhaps getting a bra and breast forms and wearing them in private might give you some insight as to what you really want to do. This may also be helpful in gauging how your gf will feel about you having breasts.
