What you've said makes perfect sense to me.
You are as they say, between a rock and a hard place, and all you can do is what seems best for you at any given moment.
Inevitably things will change and evolve along the way, as they do for all of us, but you must do what seems right, both for yourself and for those you care about. Truly, no man is an island.
BTW, I'd never heard of Lyndsy Fonseca, but having followed your link, I can understand why you'd like that magic button!
