I feel for you. A support group is so important and with it you will find that issues, like being worried about being discovered, self medicating, tend to go away.
You have to be you, sooner or later & preferably, sooner. I recently met a trans lady, who, in the 60's & 70's, was commited to a loony bin, because of her transsexuality and subjected to ECT and aversion therapy! On transition, she says, it just keeps getting better and better.
