I have wondered the same thing on many other forums and discussions. It s not only NBE, but more generally about all supplements and medical matters not in the "official books". My hypothesis is that many people want to believe some absolute truth - coming from doctors and authorities. Telling them that there might be more knowledge outside the "scientifically proven truth" is like cursing in a church, as it hurts their faith.
Unfortunately the medical education, regulatory system, and industry are extremely conservative and want to reserve the "Holy Truth" to them, being The High Priests of this faith. And they keep the Believers strictly in line. No heresy allowed.
