Here's what I think happens. Introducing estrogens into an estrogen-deprived FEMALE brain in a male phenotypical body causes a strengthening of the female drives, which causes someone previously unaware of their transgender status to "cross the point of no return".
Therefore, if you are truly only a crossdressing male, and not a transgender woman just unaware of the fact, there will be no "point of no return" in your case and you can easily just "straddle the fence" as Jannet called it.
However, if you are a transgender woman, then you do "risk" awakening yourself to it sooner than might otherwise have happened. It's up to you whether it'd be better to find out now or if that's a risk you wouldn't want to take just yet.
Personally I think that for transgender women, the sooner we know it, the better.
