It's supposed to do that, and has no undesirable side effects. I took it to combat BPH, and not only has it increased urine flow and allowed me to sleep through the night, it's probably also the reason my cholesterol dropped 22 points into the normal range in the space of a year. Good stuff! I take only 1000 mg per day. Curbita is my brand, made in Germany.
