If it were me, I would be terrified of a quack that would prescribe something for me and NOT know what he/she is doing. That's a short jump into a grave imo.
At least, he/she is admitting that he has very little knowledge and is willing to do some homework to get comfortable with it. Many MD's prolly would just prescribe a pyscho active for you and say "call me in the morning".
Or, maybe you should come right out and suggest he refer you to a Doctor that is knowledgeable in that area. That might relieve him of such worries, as well as yours.
