When I first heard of how strong PM was my first thought was that it might increase cancer risk. So I looked for studies at pubmed.gov and to my surprise it decreases cancer risk, much like the weaker herbals. So there may be something involved besides merely modulating excess estrogen.
The general medical consensus on estrogen though is that it increases breast cancer risk a great deal. One of the main responses to breast cancer are anti-estrogen drugs. Even properly used low dose birth control has some limited risk. There have been tons of studies on humans and animals, plus plenty of in person experience with endocrinologists. There's no reason why TGs with breasts would be any different, though they might not have been studied. Any alternative is preferable if possible, or else careful monitoring by a doctor is important. In spite of all the studies endocrinologists are terrified of even the hint that an herbal might be estrogenic. Because they deal with a very real and very large number of cancer cases all the time. If herbs were anywhere near the real thing, they would have been banned a long time ago faster than you could say "ephedra", after the thousands of deaths that would have resulted by now from careless un-monitored use.
It would be good if someone interested would dig through other forums where estrogen is popular and see what happened to them since it's a new thing here. It would be helpful to gauge exactly how much risk there is so people can decide what's worth it. Like prescribed birth control, properly monitored usage may mitigate the risk. I did some quick googling and did find talk of recommending cancer screenings for TGs, risk similar to biological women, and so on. Someone else may wish to take a more detailed look.
