All I wanted to do was to vent my frustration about someone claiming that sex is immutable... Because its fundamentally wrong and its a transphobic statement, its the whole goddamn thing all transphobia in existence is based upon. Of course, there's no such thing on this forum. No one ever has been transphobic on BN, no one. Its all just delusion. No one ever did a thing here, everything's just fucking dandy. 

That's all it took to get this ridiculous shitshow happening here. I think its way more telling of everyone else who reacted like absolute shite rather than what I even originally posted about.

There's a statement that come to my mind in light of this thread (and the overall arguments relating to the presence of transphobia on BN).

I feel like there are a lot of conflicting arguments pertaining to handling transphobes/transphobia. Should we block/ignore/report them and move on? Or do we engage/confront them at every turn? One cannot effectively do both. In order to be able to argue against transphobes, you have to be able to see what they are posting on this forum. If you block them, their posts are hidden (and you can only view it if you manually click a button to show said post). 

Likewise, when threads devolve into name calling and flame wars, should such threads be deleted (because they're so toxic) or left alone for all to see the participating members' complete character? One cannot have both. I suppose a "compromise" is for Eve to lock a thread, but I'm unsure if that functionality is an option with the forum. 

Whether it's about transphobia or any other issue on BN, I feel like consistency is vital.

And I don't think I have ever written anything transphobic here or anywhere else, but since I disagree with Lara (HT/HN), I am labelled as one. Makes sense? No, but, again, it comes and goes in circles and cycles.

Disagreeing with a trans person, in of itself is not transphobic. Instead, it's more about perpetrating the negative stereotypes (and falsehoods) about trans people that is transphobic I would say.

In the past two weeks I have been called  a fucktard, a bully, transphobic, by the same 3 people who are gathering on HN's thread to vomit bile, insult and abuse on me and other users (pushing them away from this forum, btw), and private messages have been sent around to "warn" people about me (from the same 3 individuals, obvs).

I don't like the name-calling either. I feel like it detracts from one's argument/position.

These are the same people who are telling off Eve for doing her job and removing threads that they themselves had reported or requested to remove.

This bothers me a lot. Not only has HN's thread been removed, but so has Eve's. I worry if things get bad enough, Eve might just shut down the whole forum.

They are also the same people who decided by themselves that "mild name calling is allowed on ths forum" (which is new to me, tbh).

I don't think this is appropriate. It goes against the terms of service.

Now these people are accusing me of being a bully and transphobic for what I wrote here. I am happy to be confronted on every single word if they can point out what in anything I wrote is transphobic. I don't even know if I should acknowledge the accusation given the track record of the accusers.

I feel like at this point, there may be little to no gain to acknowledging the accusation(s). When one or more people resort to name-calling, any semblance of having a sincere debate is over with IMO.

this is not the complex thing you make it out to be.

if someone spews hatred and prejudice publicly, they need to be challenged and called out for it. that is it. nothing more to it. every. damn. time. this is true here, this is true at workplaces, at social circles, at home.

blocking works only if someone harasses you privately. you can't stop the spread of hate by putting your head in the sand, if everyone else keeps hurting from the hate.

you're seriously putting name-calling above misogyny, transphobia, interphobia?? name-calling is not right. but it doesn't make an infinitely worse thing suddenly disappear?? the debate is NOT over as long as the hateful attitudes are there.

hate and prejudice needs to be challenged every time. the fact doesn't change if threads get deleted or forums get closed down. what the hell do we need a forum for, if it's used to spew harmful views? this patriarchal idea of systems and hierarchies being somehow more important than people and human rights is so perverse and sickening.
