I noticed that chat-nights are done on IRC, but IPs are shown that can lead to people's homes, where people don't want to be stalked or they want privacy.

XMPP (Jabber) is a way better instant messaging system to use, especially since it was dropped by Google, which is commercial and has privacy infringement issues.

XMPP is like yahoo instant messenger, except it is noncommercial. It is better now that Google disassociated with it. I'm not sure if XMPP allows a chatroom.

IRC was where this forum had chats, but IRC can be difficult to use and has privacy issues for its users.

Another option for you ladies might want to look into is a program called KiK, its very similar to text messaging but uses your android phone/iPad/ipod/iphone it can be used over any WiFi or data plan. Its a great little program, best of all you can even use it to keep in touch with fellow NBE users from outside the USA, all with no long distance text charges.
