Hi

This is my first post in the forums.

Over the weekend I ordered some Red Reishi and was excited when it arrived yesterday. Took a capsule this morning (550MG).

Somewhere in the morning a sensation developed on my tongue feeling as though it had been burned, and by the early afternoon my tongue became completely swollen to the extent that I struggled to speak - similar to when a dentist numbs one's mouth for a dental procedure. I felt quite panicked by this.  (Called emergency services wondering if I was experiencing some kind of Anaphylaxic reaction, but they were not convinced that it was an emergency because I could still speak to them and was not having difficulty breathing.)

After about three hours some of the swelling wore off, but even now at 10pm at night, I still feel the sensation that my tongue has been burned, and my lips and the back of my throat feel a bit swollen, tingly.

Two other observations:

In the morning, I cut up a watermelon and had eaten quite a number of pieces throughout the morning.

I have some fennel seeds at home and two or three times in the morning, I took a pinch of seeds and chewed them.

--------------

I've never experienced an allergic reaction before. I regularly eat melons. I've not had much watermelon in recent months. I have in the past chewed on fennel seeds without realising what potential they might have for breast development. :-D . I'm not on any other supplements or medications.

My question is if there are other records or experiences of people experiencing a reaction to Red Reishi. I can't find any evidence of it in my general searches.

I'm obviously a bit scared of taking another dose tomorrow. I think I'll wait for all the current symptoms/reactions to wear off. Perhaps I'll experiment with a bit of watermelon again to see if it causes any reaction. (Staying away from RR and Fennel while doing that). And if that does not cause a reaction I might try fennel on its own. And finally - try to have another of the RR capsules.

I think the capsules are high quality. They come in a black bottle with Orange markings. with 90 vegan capsules. Manufactured in the UK.

Any insight or ideas?

IMO, you are taking a dangerous risk by trying

Red Reishi again.  Its not worth your health over a $10 bottle of pills.  I notice that many people do not take into account that herbs have real chemicals in them that can cause side effects and medical problems.  I have tried many of the herbs suggested here and my main issue has been high blood pressure.  High BP can kill you.  In addition some of these herbs can increase the risk of bleeding.  I try to look up the herbs on medical websites like WebMD and Rx.com before I buy them.

Thank you!

I think you are right.

I'll not move quickly. As I write twenty hours later my tongue is still a bit numb, swollen. I guess time will tell if I get another reaction to any of the food I ate. I've never had a reaction to food before, I'll definitely hold off on RR until have clarity on the other factors.

What I find surprising is that WenMD and other sites do not list any side effects or reactions that resemble mine (I think they list potential dizziness, which seems closest) and generally only list the positive benefits that people claim to experience from taking it.

Edit: On reading the listed side effects on rx.com I see...

Dry mouth, throat, and nose

Itchy mouth, throat, and nose

Perhaps this relates to my experience, although mine felt a bit more acute than that.

Your right to wait till all your symptoms subside. Health is a whole lot more important than titties!
Before you swear off RR.
It might not be the reishi, but the 'extra' unknown stuff that the Chinese mud pit dropped in there.
You should look at the brand to see what controls they have on their production.

If you do start back, try 1/2 dose.

Or even a lower dose.  Agree, use a high quality brand.

Oh, that is a good idea!

I’ll try with the lotion and see if there are some reactions.

The supplement I bought seems to be from a good company. https://alpha01.co/

I have since eaten the left-over watermelon without any new sypmtoms, so I think I’ve eliminated that (I would have been extremely surprised if it was the cause).

Will chew a pinch of fennel seeds today to see if that causes any reaction.

LOL

My theory is that I was invaded by two demons at birth. They firmly planted themselves between my legs. And they are jealously watching for any attempt to displace them - and exact very forceful vengeance on any agent that might be a threat. It is as though they are saying, “We’ve got you by the balls… just you try to get rid of us!”

Uhhh, I checked out the site, and on the reishi page, it has 0 reviews. Yeah, miss me with that. Then i checked the 4 supplements on the FRONT PAGE, titled customer favorites, and it has 0 reviews across the board. I would proceed with caution, as you may still be allergic to reishi, but that is not a good company, no matter how amazing the UI design looks.

That is interesting! I bought it off Amazon where there were some reviews, but reading them now, they have basically no content. There are also no interactions in the question and answer section. I see other products listed on Amazon where there seems to be slightly more meaningful interactions.

I wonder if there is a place in the forum where people list where they get their products from? Or the names of companies that have a good track record?

I guess it depends which country you are in. I'm in the UK.

I did mix a very smalla mount of one capsule into some lotion yesterday and applied it to my wrist and a spot on my leg. There were no signs of reaction on the arm, but my lips and tongue felt tingly for practically the whole day - similar to the after-effects of a nettle sting. I think it is safe to say that I should steer away from the contents of that bottle.

It's a bit hit and miss what you buy on Amazon or E-bay, so fully understand. I had wasted a lot of time, effort and money on products that were absolutely  useless only to eventually find the first pm I ever ordered 2 years back was the bees knees. There is a lot of rubbish out there which potentially may have discomforting side effects.
