I've just come across this. Its a lovely true story and takes me back to my own situation in the UK in the 70's and 80's where I was lucky enough to find a support group, although not as detailed and imersive as this.

That’s really interesting. I think I’ve seen these photos before, but the story wasn’t as in-depth as this. Such a hoot for them. There’s a similar story link/book about the TG scene in Paris in the 50s, which is just as fascinating.

Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, "Hey, babe,
Take a walk on the wild side."

If you find this interesting, check out this book about Marinka and her incredible story. She came from Cuba in the early 60s and was one of the early pioneers of sex change surgery. She went on to be an international burlesque star and was in a few movies in the 80. All that Jazz was one of them. I just found out Marinka has cancer, so if you buy her book now, I’m sure she could use the money.

Thank for sharing that link, Pansy. It’s really something what they went through back then. Lo-Lo-Lo-La-LoLa .....
Thanks to both of you for sharing - such a treat to see and read.
Pansy’s link, and the Paris one I shared, reminds us that back then they were relegated to mountain retreats and 4am backstreet speakeasies. Today, we have Ru-Paul’s Drag Race.
