Hello all,

I'm taking a break again from NBE herbs as I'm concerned that pm and spearmint have been making me feel lethargic. My doses of pm was 2,500 mg and for spearmint it was 800 mg. I already brought this up in the chatroom earlier and the guidance I received was to reduce dosage to see if that helped. It makes sense, but I'm curious to see if anyone else has experience this issue, regardless of your dosage or herbs.

Hi Flame, ya. I went thru it as well. That's one reason I am a proponent of using no more than 2000mg of pm. Someone, might of been Lotus, posted that you should only have 1 E, 1 AA and 1 Aromatizer in any program.

Some people may have a slight allergic reaction to either of what you said you are doing. I wonder if you don't have a build up of unused E floating around. Have you ever used any PC?
Yes, I've used PC but it's been a while since I last used it. I could start using it again to see if it helps. Thank you for the input.
I have this exact same issue when taking PM. I tried taking one daily. I even tried a different brand. Two days after I stop taking it I feel great again. Once I start it up again I feel dead to the world. I've just wondered if it was due to the lower level of testosterone.

Have you tried taking pm at lower doses? If so, did it have any impact?
I've noticed lethargy on occasions. It seems to be around when I first restart after a break, and no noticeable issues going fwd. I drink Spearmint Tea often, and that doesn't seem to bother me at all.
I've had some bouts of lethargy... it's hard to pin that down to NBE, but I don't think it's unrelated.

To me, it's a sign that I should consider a break, or at least a shake up for a day or two.
My trouble is that, by the time I recognize it, it's going to take another couple of days to adjust before realizing any improvement.

If I feel super lethargic, and have low libido, and feel somewhat depressed, and I've been keeping to a higher dosing schedule, then I pretty much drop everything for a week or more. Otherwise, I might blame something else, like dehydration, job stress, or not getting enough sleep. Correcting those things will sometimes work without having to reduce dosages.

I don't know what is helping with that now, but I've not had any hint of lethargy in this round of my program.

Hiya Flame

Funny enough, I have been thinking of you lately :-) I know you have been using spearmint to good effect for some time, and from your experience have just started myself on it again.

Quick question, what form do you find best? I am using it raw and brewing a tea as that seems to be the kindest way to take it, and it makes a nice cuppa too.

Most definitely can confirm that NBE brought on lethargy. Though for me it also stoked up my CFS which clouded the issue a bit. When you are dealing with fatigue on a daily basis it can be hard to identify when symptoms are changing, but doggedly ploughing on through hoping it wasn't true made the situation clear. Much to my disappointment and frustration.

For me the culprits were Coconut Oil and PM. Lethargy, depression and weight gain were my symptoms.

Still trying to work through alternatives so can't be too conclusive at the moment, but the principle of taking breaks seems to be a big help. A week off in four has been helping but I am wondering if that gives too much of a peak and trough affect? So I am going to try a five days on two days off routine and see how that works.

And I agree with J, once I realise I have got it wrong it can take a while to get back on track again. Think a pre-emptive approach to breaks is the way to go.

My gut feeling is the problem comes from pushing down the T for too long. And/or upsetting the hormone balances in the brain. Reason why I mention the brain is I have noticed a pattern of a distinct flavour of depression that seems to come with it which I am sure (I my case at least) is to do with when the brain chemistry is out of whack.

Oh, and PC seems to help too.
Stevenator,

For me the lethargy has been setting in about 1.5-2 months after I started from my last cold turkey break. I never tried spearmint tea. I always used the capsule form.

Jamixoxo,

I can relate to finding it difficult to pin down the cause of lethargy. For the most part, I think my body is self-correcting when I'm suffering from dehydration or a lack of sleep.

Huggy,

I've always used the capsule form of spearmint. I've never tried the "3 weeks on and 1 week off" approach. Maybe that will be a useful approach for me.

In the chatroom Tanya and others suggested my lethargy could be the result of pushing down T levels for too long.

I think I'm going to have to give PC another try once I get things going again.
The first time I noticed lethargy was while planting trees in the Spring. At first I chalked it up to working very hard digging holes in heavy pollen. That has affected me in years past, and all I wanted to do was sleep. I noticed it again the other day, after a stressful few days, lack of sleep leading up to, and I slept 11 hours one night & 6 hrs one night, up for 4 hours, slept 6, awake 6, slept 8. I was going to plant 4 trees that day, but thankfully got them all in the ground yesterday. I'm physically exhausted today. I'm watering my vegetables now, and tempted not to cut grass, but I'll soldier through. I might add that I skipped my morning dose yesterday in hopes that I would have energy to complete the task. These might have nothing at all to do with anything, but they are just observances.

I have noticed a lack of energy as a whole, as I do a lot of physical labor around my property. But that was two instances where I was wiped out.

I just remembered an occasion several months ago where my project of the day was to finish cutting down a strand of trees out in my woods. After I dropped 4 trees, I just could not continue. They're still waiting for me to clean up, but it's a project I've put off until the fall/winter.

I guess there is some truth to lethargy & PM . . .
