I was talking to my Endo, and we got on the subject of T blockers due to fact my estro is doing NOTHING for me at all. We started by talking about the usual T blockers (Fin, Spiro) and he mentioned that they can be a bit pricey. My endo then made the suggestion of taking a certain over-the-counter med that has a notorious side effect of causing Gyno if taking more than one month regularly. I asked why he would tell me this, and he stated
"Because the pharmaceutical companies raise prices to ridiculous levels to take advantage of people like yourself. What costs a penny to make is being sold at a rate of 10,000%, and it's pure greed that does this."
So he informed me of an over-the-counter Antacid named Tagamet, which contains Cimetidine. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

"It has also been found to possess clinically significant albeit weak anti-androgen properties at high doses that are especially noticeable in men. It directly antagonizes the binding of testosterone and DHT to the androgen receptor in animals. In addition, also in animals, it interferes with the metabolism of estrogen and increases its serum concentrations."

Now just because I told you this, doesn't mean we should all go out and splurge on a supply of it. There ARE adverse effects. Especially for those taking Antidepressants. Please read this article before making any decisions.

That's really interesting. will definitely look more into this. Smile Thanks.
A couple things....

Tagamet IS cimetidine. Tagamet is the brand name, cimetidine is the generic name.

The highest rate of gynecomastia occurs when the person is taking 1600+mg a day.

Cimetidine also raises your prolactin levels.

I do use cimetidine and yes, it does work (in fact, having been on it without PM or other herbs, I'd say it's the most effective.) While I can't say I've noticed visible growth, they definitely feel bigger when I'm on it (research states that the growth tends to disappear with the discontinuation of the cimetidine.) and what I found most enjoyable is that they feel fuller and heavier. And of course nipples get that wonderful tingly feeling.

If you want to go this route, get the generic not the brand name. You'll save tons of cash. Walmart has bottles of 60 - 200mg cimetidine pills for like $7. At 1600mg per day, that means you'll almost go completely through a bottle a week.
Very interesting. Thanks for the info.
For anyone looking for information on the studies/side effects, I read a lot here:

I spoke to my doctor about it recently and got prescribed Cimetidine, and at the same dose as the OTC stuff. Difference being that I pay NOTHING thanks to my insurance. Smile
Nice Smile hope it goes well! x
