This is interesting as on a government website ?
ie gosh herbs work ???????

my question is does Reishi help with dampening down of our desires or just assist with DHT ?

Julie

Anti-androgens are an assorted group of drugs and compounds that reduce the levels or activity of androgen hormones within the human body. Disease states in which this is relevant include polycystic ovarian syndrome, hirsutism, acne, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and endocrine related cancers such as carcinoma of the prostate.

We provide an overview and discussion of the use of anti-androgen medications in clinical practice and explore the increasing recognition of the benefits of plant-derived anti-androgens, for example, spearmint tea in the management of PCOS, for which some evidence about efficacy is beginning to emerge. Other agents covered include red reishi, which has been shown to reduce levels 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme that facilitates conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT); licorice, which has phytoestrogen effects and reduces testosterone levels; Chinese peony, which promotes the aromatization of testosterone into estrogen; green tea, which contains epigallocatechins and also inhibits 5-alpha reductase, thereby reducing the conversion of normal testosterone into the more potent DHT; black cohosh, which has been shown to kill both androgenresponsive and non-responsive human prostate cancer cells; chaste tree, which has a reduces prolactin from the anterior pituitary; and saw palmetto extract, which is used as an anti-androgen although it shown no difference in comparison to placebo in clinical trials.
It may have a slight help in reducing sex drive, but mostly DHT is what I have read about it.
Hi Julie

What an interesting find. Makes me wonder if you have stumbled upon what Lotus is really getting up to now? (joke ;-)

Can only speak from my own experience, but one of the things I have really struggled with from the outset is to try and get some dampening down. Tried a bunch of different combinations and not much seemed to have an effect on me.

It was only once I really ramped up the levels of Reishi and WP did I get any relief. I cannot say for certain but I strongly suspect it was the Reishi that mostly did the job. Some of what I have been reading seems to indicate that dropping DHT levels can have an effect on the brain chemistry as well as the other better recognised effects. I realise it's totally subjective but I suspect this is true in my case. Once I ramped up there was a definite mental shift and quietening.

By coincidence, I have just started a break from NBE and the effect has continued even though it's been almost a week since going cold turkey (this is VERY unusual). I will be starting a stripped down programme next week, using mostly Reishi. If you would like to give me a poke in a few weeks I will be able to let you know how I get on. I may be able to give you an answer based on actual live experience.

Huggy.
Hi Julie

Got an update on your reishi question for you. It's only been a few weeks but I can give you some preliminary results.

With the rider that YMMV, from my little experiment I can say that having spent some time now on just reishi and v low dose FG there is a lowering of libido and TG desires. Not as much as a full NBE programme but I noticed a definite effect. It was still there but as if it has a soft focus filter. A little difficult to describe but it took the hard edge off and gave control so that I had the feeling that if I wanted to I could have a little play rather than be fighting it.

I have thought for some time now that I have unusually high DHT levels and so for me perhaps more than many it is the monster in the room. Unfortunately my little experiment had also confirmed another suspicion I had that my weight loss has been blocked by my NBE programme. And I REALLY need to get it down. So it looks like I will have to review my whole programme and decide what I am going to do next. Perhaps I will be back with a more definitive answer for you after all.

Huggy.
Thanks for this. And for being the live experimentor. I had heard about the reishi extract from a youtube video. Nice to know someone within this site has tested it in isolated conditions.
Julie,

Do you have the link for that article? Or is it a closed network
Hi Tanya

I found it by googling herbal anti androgens , some where

Julie
Hi Huggy

Thanks for update

Very interesting , I think super high levels of dht could be my tg cause or trigger anyway

Sat here today , very mellow , looking at breasts going well there cute , but don't need them , 4 weeks ago I'd have killed for them almost

Going forward now out of curiosity and so is wife ,

Nbe is certainly working so once enough growth occurred will switch to the new live reishie experiment

Keep us all informed of your results

Julie
Hi Julie

Think the most frustrating thing about this is that for the first time in...... I don't know it's been so long....... I had finally started feeling at peace with all this.

But the hard reality is that I am going to have to shift priorities. Which is a real shame as I had finally worked out a decent plan that was actually working! Such is life huh?

So far my research has thrown up a few interesting things and it has got me thinking. I wonder if it might be possible to bolt together an NBE programme that can actually work with weight loss? The basis for an interesting post perhaps?

Huggy.
Keep running with it hon

We could start calling you
