The 5 stages (female stages, just as a reference)

Stage One

Technically starts when the hypothalamus in the brain secretes gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), stimulating the pituitary gland (also in the brain) to secrete follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) into the blood circulation. That stimulates the ovaries to produce estradiol. Visually, Stage One is defined as that which is happening from birth until some enlargement occurs in the nipples and areolae. The breast glandular tissue is referred to as a breast "bud" at this stage. All of the components of the breast are there, but they are quite small, as they have not yet developed. Development in the female will usually begin to occur at the onset of puberty. A male's breast will usually remain in this stage throughout his life. (Unless NBE or HRT is chosen)

Stage Two

Is when breast development which occurs after the breast bud has begun to change and shows some enlargement. The nipples will increase in size, often causing some embarrassment due to their appearance under clothing. The areolae will begin developing to a larger size and may start to slightly darken in color. The nipples become very sensitive at this time, and may have more sensations. During stage two is when the first menstrual flow (menarche') usually occurs, about two years after breast development.

Stage Three

Specific breast features are somewhat arbitrary, and stage differentiation is subject to the professional that is making the judgment. Stage three is obviously between stages two and four, and general overall enlargement of the breasts, nipples and areolae occurs. Professional experience is usually used to decide where stage three starts and finishes.

Stage Four

Often indicated by the formation of a secondary swelling just under the areolae. It is almost as if a second breast bud is developing on the front of the existing breast. This can be seen during the early teens, or as late as the early twenty's.

Stage Five

is when the breast is fully matured. Changes to the breast will continue to occur throughout the rest of a woman's life, but they will be caused by pregnancy, lactation, weight loss or gain, aging and disease.

I'd like to find evidence to disprove the first part of this quote from the chart.

Quote:Only a very few transsexual women (mostly under age 20) reach this "mature" stage ( stage V tanner scale) after two or three years of hormone treatment

The breast has now fully filled out and only the nipple still projects, the areola has recessed and become part of the general breast contour i.e. the secondary mound has disappeared.

I think this illustration should be in here:

Well, at 9 months, I'm at Stage III which is right in line with the chart for 6 -12 month development. If my breast growth continues at the same pace for 2 years I conceivably could reach a Stage V. More likely, I'll stall before then given my age. Frankly, I'm surprised that I've developed as far and as fast as I have. Makes me wonder why.

Nice work, Lotus! This is very helpful. I have no doubt Im at stage three and have been for awhile. Still waiting, as I approach six months on E, just when stage four may get here...sigh. Really, if you consider the years of PM, I am guessing I am nearing four years total HRT. Most growth I have occurred just from the PM and I have yet to see much more since starting on E, though I am certainly noticing other changes now. Facial shape is changing, head hair growing much faster than before, fat redisribution throughout the rest of the body, plus those dreaded mood swings. But I am aware of near constant activity in the breasts so I expect something is happening...tee hee.
Anyway, thanks, Lotus.

Good genetics, runs in the family?. Wink One problem for us is having wider rib cages, sad to say nothing can be about that. I know we've talked about the percentages of TG/TS unhappy with their size end up getting implants, either way it's gotta be frustrating for anybody not reaching their boobie goal.

Stage 3 and 4 are awesome growth, kick your heels kinda happy. WinkCool
