So what is the opinion of the board on best practice for facial hair removal? Laser and electrolysis are out for the time being for me.
Has anyone tried to No No hair removal system - on any body part? I know it doesn't kill the hair follicle but burns the hair down to the root. Does it work?
I have not tried that little baby, but I remember reading several comments and reviews which were mostly negative... along the lines of "takes too long", "ineffective", "refill bulbs expensive and don't last" etc

Personally, I just use an epilator. Hurts like hell at first, but gets easier with time. But my bodily hair has always been fairly sparse, and after all this time I now find it is much finer and lighter than before (in most places -
), and has stopped growing altogether in others (hands, for example).
Of course, this won't help with facial hair, though even that now grows more slowly.
Face? I just shave frequently. I've read that is not good to epilate or tweeze the face, so I don't. I epilate everything else though, except the scrotum, and then shave to get the short hairs that the epilator can't grab. PM hasn't slowed my body hair growth at all, and it's actually causing my scalp hair to regrow (Yay!), but I plan to add Spearmint to my regimen next week as an experiment.
BTW, anyone find tweezing extraneous hairs on your breasts relaxing? I do it almost every evening just for fun.

No No doesn't work... and don't pluck your face.... I've done it few times and the 3 weeks without facial hair was amazing... then the ingrown hairs started.... for months....

I own a Panasonic ES-WD51. It's cordless and waterproof so I can use it in the tub or shower. It works pretty well as far as I can tell, but I have to go over an area multiple times to get all the hair. It needs a couple of millimeters of growth to grab onto, so stubble still has to be shaved if you want to be smooth. I have no idea how it compares to other brands.
I do get ingrown hairs, though, using the epilator. They leave little red dots on my skin that I hate. I was hoping that would correct itself, but so far, no.
I'd like to get a good laser to use on my body hair which is still dark, but the cost is a barrier and I'm still not sure what works well. The 'No No' is a piece of crap. Anyone have personal knowledge of a good laser? A decent laser will run around a thousand US or more. That's still less than going to a professional over time, so maybe I'll save up. It won't work on my face though, too much gray.
Getting rid of hair is a big part of being trans. It's a real PITA!

Laser is way cheaper than I thought it was, at least in my area. Don't discount having it professionally done until you check out some places.
I, too, looked for at home lasers for awhile. The No-No is a scam, from what I've read.

My first treatment is Friday(Alexandrite! Wooh!). Only getting the face done. I'm not very hairy elsewhere. I do wax my legs every few weeks. Epilators scare me lol
Anybody have any advice on a good razor? I can't pluck or wax my face for awhile
Oh, and CK...tweezing hairs around the nipple is the best feeling ever. They've almost stopped growing now though. Good and bad there lol
I've been doing laser hair removal for my facial hair throughout the last two years. The results have been dramatic from when I first started.
If you're going to go for laser hair removal, I strongly recommend seeing a professional. I think it's so much easier and safer for an expert to be administering the treatment. All I have to deal with is the pain, instead of whether I'm using the equipment properly, utilizing proper protection for my eyes and treating all my facial hair. When done right, I feel pain with each laser shot, which would make it very difficult to do it on myself.
Sarah, I think the cheap disposal razors would be your best bet. I can a pretty close shave using the disposal kind. Gillette and other brand razors I think are wayyy overpriced.

They cut my skin. Didn't used to but now its all thin and cuts easily. Thought maybe a razor with more blades would require less pressure, and therefore less bleeding on my end ;p
I like the Venus ones. Not the disposables but the ones with replaceable blade heads. The pink models are especially good, with thick buffers of that gel stuff.
But that is not on my face. On the face I use a male model disposable with a gel. I shave twice...once down, then a second time going against the grain. But even my facial hair grows more slowly now. I really only need to shave my face every two to three days.
