More Transsexuals-I Blame the Internet

Some people have said that there are only more transsexuals now because we can all talk to each other and there is more exposure and there has always been the same number.

WELL I DISSAGREE
Mainly because I remember vividly seeing am image of a TS with 2 years  HRT and her breasts were just adorable, it was OMG moment.
Also I am pretty certain that if I had not seen that image , I would not be where I am now,
Also the temptation of sneaking a peek at all you gorgeous girls makes me want to continue,
If the internet was not there, then I would not be peeking and would not be growing,

Now agreed the classic TS who has known from early child hood, then yes, they would be driven to their ultimate conclusion, but I am convinced there are many borderline TG people who are now women because of the internet ,
They get encouraged, they get the herbs/hrt, they fall over the fence.
All the while looking and being fuelled by quick glances on the ipad instead of watching Tv etc.
This is so with me, I am borderline something, not a clue what, and can go for weeks/months with a don’t look, don’t contact , then one quick look at Poly breasts, and reach for the pm tub or gel.
The internet is one of the best things for Mankind, am just saying it breeds Transsexuals

Hi Julie,

Whilst the internet makes a difference in terms of access to information and resources the biggest thing for me is greater prevalence of trans people in the media both traditional (tv, radio, newspapers) and new media (internet, social media etc).  It is also more socially accepted these days as well as a number of people have commented to me when they were told.

Yes it is possible that some are encouraged and therefore there is weight to your argument about increased numbers who are visible but maybe because its easier and more socially accepted people dont live a life in denial.  I guess many years ago when the options werent available people tried to live their lives as best they could.  This was recently on the bbc website and I guess it sums up what I am saying perfectly:

I think it's pretty undeniable that there has been a shift in the relationship of "trans people" to the rest of society at least in the "civilized world" and the internet certainly comes into play, but the media is responsible for a lot of it.  As for transgender/transexual being more acceptable in the modern day, I think a LOT of that depends on what region someone lives in and also the subcommunities that people associate with.  In a lot of ways the increased exposure is a double edged sword, as sometimes the exposure serves to encourage tg/ts people and others it sparks outrage and backlash against what was once a much quieter minority.

The internet is much the same, serving to help, and harm at the same time.  There used to be a time before the internet and before there was a wealth of published information in print, and a lot of people with tg/ts feelings would literally have to go to places like dirty (as in pornographic) bookstores to find any published information.  With the advent of the internet, it almost literally puts information at peoples fingertips, and even a homeless person with a library card or a smartphone and a mcdonalds can readily find information.

The drawback is that often the internet can obscure relevant and correct information with vast quantities of irrelevant information and just plain bullshit.  There are articles that say a few herbs like fenugreek and red clover will jumpstart a transition, and a myriad of articles that say NO herb can help someone to, say, grow breast tissue.  Many of them go on to say that these herbs are terribly dangerous and that the only safe way to proceed is to take pharmaceuticals from a doctor (as if doctors and pharmaceuticals never killed anyone.....)

On top of that, there are people who are selling good products (like pueraria mirifica preparations) and plenty of others selling nearly worthless products, like pills that two a day should "turn you into a woman" despite largely inert ingredients.....or even more ridiculous people are selling "magic spell necklaces, rings, amulets etc." that will "cause you to change sex just by wearing them."  And we live in a world with people desperate and stupid enough to actually believe these claims and waste a metric crapload of their money.

And with all the increased communication between tg/ts people from the internet we actually are nowhere closer to having the "transgender community" term people love to throw around.  I can think of one large trans forum on the internet that is a stellar example....misinformation is constantly spread, there is near endless fighting and bitching among the members, and to top it off the liberal social justice warrior type use these platforms to push their agendas like trying to convince people that the gender binary is complete BS, that anyone can make up a new gender and a set of pronouns to match, and that it's the right of this minority to demand the primarily cisgender majority use their made up pronouns and new genders despite there being 79 or more of them.  They want to call a lot of everyday folks biggots for not using these new terms even though they are oppressive to everyday communication.  And no matter how many new terms they come up with they assume it is their right to force the public to study them and use them.  And these types are using  the internet to indoctrinate younger tg/ts people into believing these gender theories as absolute fact.  And the honest truth is that all the snowflakey social justice silliness is really starting to put a new negative stigma on  what it means to be TG/TS.

remember to take this post with your own grain (or shaker) of salt.  just stating opinion.....
one last bit I forgot....thanks to the internet and the media, for some ridiculous reason they have chosen the rich and famous hollywood transpeople to be the unelected spokespeople of all transpeople, despite the fact that the vast majority of transpeople are impovrished, underemployed, and dont make a ridiculous amount of money off the images they have carefully crafted to sell to the masses.

So the long and the short of it is, as far as I'm concerned, the internet is just another tool, like say firearms or vehicles that can be used intelligently, or used in an unwise manor...I am thankful for it, but endlessly wary of it too
Blimey bath tub

did we rub a nerve there ?

Lol

...I can neither confirm nor deny....
I think to some degree Julie is correct.  But, I think the base numbers has, for the majority, has risen only slightly.  I think the internet has raised the awareness and helped shape the public at large that is more acceptable than say 50 yrs ago.

Just like the numbers of gays and lesbians has not "jumped" because of the internet.  There has always been a certain percentage of them.  The only difference now is there are Equal Protection Laws that ease the burden somewhat professionally of "Coming Out".

Transgenders may be a little higher in number due to the general relaxed acceptance though.
I think Aria has a good point.  The numbers of people who ate trans may not have changed, but it stands to reason more people are openly out doing something about it instead of remaining a non trsnsitioning transperson
I blame the good old Sears catalog for aditionally fuelling my feelings.  It would show up, Id be thrilled to turn to the womens intimate section and admire with envy the form and beauty it showed. That period is when I knew the road ahead would be full of complications and hurt before it ever got better. I cant be the only who stalked the mailman looking for that catalog?

Yep something similar for me in the UK........although it was the Kays catalogue over here.  When I stayed at my grandparents there was an old one which I liberated and hid under the bed for perusal when I stayed there.  Although before then (and one of my earliest memories) was wearing my moms shoes when I was about 3/4, when I was younger I also pestered my mom for a doll which was in a shop window......I eventually got the doll but my dad was very miffed at the whole thing.

I guess even since I was around 8-9 (so only 30 years ago) a lot has changed when I think about it in terms of visibility and acceptance/tolerance of people being transgender........although that applies to quite a lot of other things as well.
